What: Fleming Meadows Loop Ride (C8)

When: Saturday, Nov 7, 9:00 AM

Where: Pollock Pines, Ca

Why: It’s like a rollercoaster, only on the dirt!

Meeting Description: Fleming Meadows is a blast and we usually have the trails to ourselves.

There are about 8 miles of trails, with a few strenuous climbs. Trails are mostly single track with some fire road. Trails are mostly non-technical, but there are great stretches of flowing downhill single track with low (1 ft.) jumps and drops. We’ll be sticking to route 8. Routes 8A and 8B are pretty cool on the way down but a pretty good hike-a-bike on the way out.

If there are just a few of us I’ll be glad to bring along my little gas bbq and do up come chili dogs afterward, otherwise there is a great pizza place just a few miles back in town.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at the Iron Point Light Rail Station at the corner of Folsom Blvd. and Iron Point in Folsom and car pool/caravan from there.

Please bring YOUR HELMET, water, trail food, a functioning bike, patch repair kit,, etc.

Here's another idea for adding mileage (if everyone wants too). After riding the entire loop counter-clockwise (the normal direction), we could cut across the loop on one of the fire roads, and ride a section of the trail the opposite direction, going downhill on what initially was a climb. Actually, I've been studying the map trying to figure out how use the fireroads to ride the entire loop as a downhill, but for some strange reason that doesn't seem possible.

Hey Don, I think a side trip along the lake is a possiblity. Let's see how we all feel when we get back to the parking lot. And hey I'm not rulling out a 8A or 8B 'detour'. It was pretty cool down by the creek!

Fun ride. Thanks for leading Bill. And thanks for the refreshment. A little bit of everything - bomb scare, smoldering forest fire, (which Amber stomped out). And at the end I missed a turn in the trail and almost went down the spillway. That would have been a fun ride. Still want to do Fleming before it's snowed in.
    •  We didn't get to go to Fleming Meadow because the bomb squad was up there diffusing something somebody found. So we went around Jenkinson Lake instead. What a beautiful ride! I highly suggest this trail for those of you who enjoy a light to moderate technical trail with lots of scenery and plenty of cardio.
    •  Well, because of a bomb scare we had to ride Jenkinson Lake, but it was a great alternative and a perfectly beautiful fall ride!
