MOAB, UT Spring Escape

That's right people - the Hammerin' Wheels MTBers are going to MOAB UTAH next spring!!!!

You should be a strong beginner or above rider with a good quality bike to make the most of this trip. Expected and recommended equipment for the trip will be discussed on the message board. I'm hoping we get a big enough group going to be able to divide into groups based on abilities.

We'll be leaving on Saturday morning (5/8/10) and returning the following Friday evening (late - 5/14/10). That's 6 nights in Moab. If you can't come with us for all the days - join us for some! We'll be caravaning/carpooling from the Roseville Sunsplash park & ride and staying at the Moab Valley RV Resort - which has cabins, RV & tent sites, a large pool and hot tub, "10" rated restrooms, laundry room, group meeting/BBQing pavillions, and a bike wash. Check it out - www.moabvalleyrv.com. So far, at least 4 members are going and have already reserved cottages (which have their own bathrooms, showers, and other amenities, etc). If you want a "cottage" - reserve one quickly, there are only 2 left!

This will be a fun, cost effective way to visit and ride one of the countries premier off-road areas. If you share a cabin, it can cost only about $15.00 per night for lodging - and this includes full access to the RV Park and its facilities. We'll also be doing other stuff besides hanging out and riding (Colorado River rafting, etc).

Since this event is so far off, most of our communication will take place on the "Message" Board. We already have a great thread going so check it out.

This is Mark. I have a cabin that I have two spare beds in. If anyone wants to share, let me know. I am planning to drive out too, maybe with someone? I can be reached at (916) 835-2204 OR kickstand996@yahoo.com

Also, is there an email list or website, something more concise for information would be greatly helpful in lieu of the discussion string.

And lastly, is there an upcoming meeting to discuss the trip, which trails to ride together on which days, travel partners, etc?

    Thanks!

    Hi all,
Anyone else want a shirt for Moab. I have 11 orders & need one more for a better price. Design concept: Arches, Kokopelli dude, mountains/sun in back ground with logo and "Rock Moab 2010" below the scene on a royal blue tek shirt. The art designer will draw up the design and send a proof for review.

Bryan - They don't have sleevesless tek shirts. only sleeveless cotton. They do have tek-Tanks. LMK.
Marsh - U want a shirt? What size?
    Bobby-size?
    Please advise ASAP: 552-8504

    FYI-
    Origin of Moab's Name

The name Moab is a Biblical name for a land just short of the Promised Land. The Moabites were historically regarded as the perpetual enemy of the Israelites, "God's Chosen People." Physically, the region was a green, verdant valley in the middle of a serious desert; an emerald in the sand, so to speak. Because of those similarities, our little town was dubbed Moab by Mormon settlers in the 1800's.

I'm picking up the shirts tomorrow (16). Price not final, but likely:

$31 for those who ordered Long Sleeve shirts (BQ-2, DM, JK)
$29 for Short Sleeve shirts. (all others)

I will distribute in Moab. Payment by check is preferred but not the rubber kind. :)) Cash ok.

Jeannette, I would like the spot in the cabin. I'm still waiting for a reply from Mark, Dano, and Josh about rides. If I can't carpool with somebody, I don't think I can make the trip :/

Ryan check with bryan tully. Dano is getting a ride with him. I don't know what kind of vehicle he has.
I have a Toyota extended cab, but basically you have to sit sideways, unless you are really short. Mark and Harry are driving together.
I am sure someone will have room. But you are welcome to ride with us. We are leaving between 5-8pm. It depends of Mark when he can get off work.

Words can't describe this trip...... it surpassed all my expectations!!! Moab and the trails were SPECTACULAR!!! We rode trails rated a 10 in difficulty and improved our skills significantly, especially rock and ledge riding. I don't have the words to describe how much I enjoyed this trip! From the campground (cottage), to the trails, the companionship, group meals, helping each other, etc.. This group was special and really bonded - forever to be known as the "Original Moab Crew"! Unfortunately, due to the difficulty of the trails, there were some injuries. I hope everyone heals up quickly. Protective equipment prevented several more injuries. Overall, the bikes held up extremely well! We'll be having a Moab Trip reunion party in a couple of months to check out all the videos and photos. Spring Escape 2011 is already in the works!!!!
