MTB Beginner Ride along Lake Natoma

Starting Location - Hazel Light Rail Station parking lot (across from Nimbus Winery). Changed due to activities at the Aquatic Center and local construction.

Back by popular demand - truly a beginner or novice dirt ride. If you have only ridden your mountain bike a few times, this is the ride for you. The ride will begin at the Fish Hatchery and go along the east side of Lake Natoma along the dirt trails up to Folsom. The trails are mostly dirt, with some pavement. No long climbs - all the hills are short and not very high. It is a great place to start learning some shifting and braking skills in the dirt. Total ride length is 10 miles (5 miles up and 5 miles back). Ride will take about 2 hours with rests stops as needed along the way. We will have a quick rest break at Karen's Bakery at the halfway point.

We will meetup at 8:15 and be ready to roll at 8:30.

Please bring a bike in good working order. This trail is also acceptable for hybrid bikes, in case you do not have a mountain bike. We can hit Starbucks after the ride if anyone wants to.

Further, we can ride it more than once if there is interest in doing animal miles.

Helmets are required for this ride and bring water. Also suggested you dress for the weather (warmly and wear full fingered gloves as well). HEAT, RAIN, TORNADOES, FLOODS, SNOW, WIND, SLEET, HAIL AND SUN WILL NOT CANCEL THIS RIDE. If you have any questions or are running late, please call me at 747-8651.

Just a note - Karen's bakery is not open on Sundays. We will just be using that as a turn around point.

Terry has agreed to assume her old station and sweep the ride. Great to have the tag team back together again. :o) And this is one of Terry's favorite trails to boot.

Nice to see some new faces and some familiar faces. Especially nice to see Terry out on her MTB riding one of her favorite trails.

Got to take the "new" off my Stumpjumper! A chilly but fun time. Really enjoyed meeting everyone. And I really thought this was going to turn into Adrienne's big New Bike Adventure for a while there. ;) I think I see a shiny new full-suspension bike in her future.

This was my first experience on the "dark side"....I was pretty skeptical and bought a bike off Craigslist....I quickly found out the reason it was so inexpensive. Kim, Dave, and Kay all helped me "test-drive" some bikes when we arrived at Bicycles Plus. What a difference! I can't wait to go on another ride with a good bike. The weather was chilly and overcast but we warmed up quickly! I can see how this can be addictive! Nice to see some folks I hadn't seen in awhile and meet some new ones.

Great having a MB ride for beginners . . .takes the pressure off and doesn't hold up the rest. I'm glad that I was with a group in which someone carried a chain tool! LOL (support was great; saved the day!) It would be nice to have a little beginner instruction from the experts (weight shifting, going over rocks, handling technical ascents/descents, handling wet bridges, setting up shocks, etc.) before hitting the trail.
