Join FATRAC on Sunday November 15, 2009, for a MTB ride on the Pioneer Trail. The Pioneer trail starts at Harmony Ridge market off of Hwy 20 above Nevada City. The ride is mostly smooth, rolling single track, with occasional, short, steep uphills and some roots and rocks for good measure. The trail climbs from 3500-5000 feet elevation over 15 miles on the way out. The way back is much faster, trending downhill, and very fun. At the end of the ride, you can purchase a deli sandwich from Harmony Ridge market, and we'll sit out on the deck to relive the ride.
UPDATED INFO - FATRAC is also adding a novice group for the ride. The Pioneer Trail is a perfect trail for novices to do the first few miles at a slower pace as an out and back. Robin will be leading the novice/beginner group.
Make sure to bring plenty of food and water. There is no food or water anywhere along this trail. The campsites are closed and their water sources disabled. Your bike should also be in good working condition and you should carry a spare tube at a minimum.
Rain does not necessarily cancel! Please review the meetup site PRIOR TO LEAVING on the morning of the ride.
Ride Summary
Meeting Place: Flower Garden at 340 Elm Ave, Auburn, CA, 8:30 AM.
Terrain: Rolling single track that includes many short, steep uphills/downhills, and one sustained climb near the middle. The soil is primarily hard pack with a short section that is gravely and a bit rocky. Elevation gain is approximately 1,800 ft.
Distance: 30 miles. This is an out and back ride.
Speed: 7-10mph average speed. We'll take breaks at trail junctions and when it's logical.
Rider Level: Intermediate-Advanced.
Sweep: Yes.
I'd like to do an intermediate level ride, also. I've ridden the lower half of the trail once, and I can probably find my way back from whatever point I turn around on the upper half.
Normally there are two groups. those that go the entire distance and those who go about 2/3 the way. Kind of like an advanced and intermediate. They have added the beginner option. And you can turn around at any time. The return is mostly downhill, just a few uphills, one loose rocky walking section.
If anyone is driving up Hwy 80 past Antelope Rd., Email me your # and we can carpool.
Great ride yesterday. It was a little chilly but the trail was in awesome shape!
I'm trying to find the person who lent their pedals to another rider. If that was you, send me a message and I'll point you to the person that has them.
Thanks.
Will there be a group for intermediates that don't want to ride the full 30 miles but want to ride longer than the beginner group?
