Salmon Falls Trail - Strong Beginners and Intermediate Rider

Starbucks (map)

Selected By: Phred

Meet at the Starbucks in El Dorado Hills (N/E corner of Francisco Drive and Green Valley Rd across from Safeway) at 8:30am and be ready to roll by about 8:45am. We'll drive/carpool to the Salmon Falls Bridge trailhead on Salmon Falls Rd (there's not a lot of parking space). The plan is to ride the Salmon Falls (Darrington) Trail for an "out and back". I don't plan on taking the "Hill of Death" (Flagstaff) this time, but there are some hills and you should still break a good sweat. We'll take breaks as needed but they'll mostly be short - except for a snack break at the turnaround point. This is another ride that should help with your conditioning. Riders should be comfortable with their mountain bike skills (shifting, braking, etc) and be in decent shape. Ride length should be about 3 hours total (maybe more for if the pace is on the slower side. Depending on the turnout, we may split into two groups (Strong Beginner and Intermediate Plus).

Let's go for pizza at Mountain Mikes (by the Starbucks) after the ride.

Helmets are required, and I recommend gloves and drinks/snacks (water bottle or camel pack). This is not a trail for hybrid bikes and your bike should be in good mechanical condition. You should carry a spare tube and the equipment to change a flat. Please have your bike ready to go before you get there (air, chain lubricated, adjustments, etc).

Light rain will not cancel this ride, however heavy rain may cancel. Check site 2 hours before the ride to see if it is cancelled - Please call me [masked] (cell) if you have any questions.

Is anyone willing to lead a faster paced group? If so, please email me and we can chat logistics. If we have two grps, then I will open the ride limit up to include all on the waiting list. Thx.

Thx Blaine. All who were on the waiting list have been added. I am sure Blaine and I will accept any help to herd the cats. If you are interested in helping lead or sweep just let us know.

I will be driving in from Wheatland and will meet up with the group at the trailhead. I have room for one for carpooling if anybody lives in this general area (lincoln, etc...).

Absolutely. Was there any question that I would be in the back of the pack anyway??

Looks like we will be having some fun on Saturday. The trail will be wet, so please come with safety in mind. Have fun, but be cautious. Is there any folks looking to roll with the faster paced pack lead by Blaine. Just curious if folks have given it some thought.

I've been moved up to the "yes" list! I'm not sure about going with the advanced group, however. Depends on how advanced they're going to be!

I want to thank Blaine for taking on leading the faster paced pack. I also would like to thank Blaine, Mike Schoellkopf, Shawn, Jeffery B. and Rob for helping every one thru the water and over the bridge. I guess the lake was higher than I expected. duh.

Great video. Captured all the excitement, and the "hardship" of the coolest ride this year to date. I also liked the music you chose "Queen" and Freddy still rocks. Thank You

I had a great time on one of the more challenging trails. I am not sure who's idea it was to ford the river, but I think a ferry boat would have been a nice touch. haha It just added to the experience of MTB riding.

WOW! What an FUN ride on SFT and DITTO on all the comments. Ok, I may be biased, but HW group is blessed with the most positive, encouraging, and simply...THE MOST AWESOME mtb riders ;>)) I'd ride with y'all anywhere, even across lakes, LOL! BIG thanks to PB&J for your SUPURB leadership and group support!!!

WOW! Every time I go on a really fun ride and think 'how can this be topped', a ride like today's comes along and blows me away with a fun factor off the charts. Phred and Blaine thanks for making it happen!!! Big thanks also to all the peeps who came out. You're the biggest reason it was so enjoyable.

What a great ride and you couldn't have asked for nicer weather. I'm glad I took the high road rather than the bridge that was partly under water :) I know, where is my sense of adventure, right?.... Thanks Phred for posting the ride. What a great time....

What can I say about todays ride, well there was DIRT and that should be enough but I will add that next time I will have my "Go Go Gadget Floaties" installed on bike. Oh and Will should carry some Mitty Putty or JB Weld with him from now on. The Pizza and Beer was good after the ride as well--{thanks for letting me mooch} And Thanks to Steve and Tracy for getting me back home. All in All it was a Pretty DARN good day. Much THANKS to Phred and Blaine for hosting the ride.

JUST AWESOME. Good trail, good company, and weather was great. What a great day. I hope that the temporary setbacks suffered by Will and Antoni will be just temporary and Will will be back on the trail with his new bike in no time. Antoni hope you get better really quick. By the way the pizza party really hit the spot after ride.

What a fantastic ride; probably one of the best that I've been on for a while. It was just the right amount of challenge regardless of your level and just beautiful country. It was also a great ride to "get your feet wet" . . . :-) Thanks Phred and all!
