Auburn Confluence (bridge to Cool) (map)
Monday the 15th is a holiday...Presidents day...help celebrate by riding your mountain bike. Meet at the Confluence of the American River. From Auburn take HWY 49 towards Cool (Placerville) but do not cross bridge to Cool...continue straight 100-200 yards (on Old Forest Hill Rd) and park on either the left or right side in order to save the $10 fee for parking up at the Quarry. We roll out at 9:30 AM towards the Quarry so be sure to get there early enough to get your act together.
According to Nate this ride is pretty much a beginner's ride. The ride is about 9 to 15 miles round trip. The road has a few single track areas and is used by hikers and equestrians. Drainage, which is an important consideration this time of year, is good. Some mud and water crossings with virtually no baby heads sticking up in the trail. A few short challenging climbs, some sand and pea gravel. All of it next to the river which can be seen the whole trip. Light showers do not cancel ride...Rain does.
Helmets required! Additional items to bring...Hydration bag (especially with horses using trail), Food (bars and gel good), spare tubes, tire pump, patch kit, multi-tool, tire levers. Bring layers of clothing with you and a place to carry it when in warms up.
Don't look for the white Honda Odyssey :-) I will be driving my Red and Grey Ford Pickup with the white camper shell.
