Please notice the new start time due to reduced hours of Northstar park operation. Park hours on July 31 are 8:30-12:30. We still plan on riding out to the backside and on to Watson Lake for lunch. We can ride down after 12:30, but the lifts will not be running. We can always ride down Watson Lake Road to the park entrance (that is how the locals access the downhill stuff).
This is considered a leaderless ride once we get to Northstar and you are not expected to stay in any set group or regroups. With the exception of the Watson Lake excursion, you are on your own and responsible for the amount of fun you have.
We’ll meet at Roseville Golfland-Sun Splash, 1893 Taylor Rd, Roseville, CA 95661 at 6:45 am SHARP, figure out carpool arrangements, load up and hit the road. P.S. any pre car pooling plans that can be arranged in advance will save us time (discuss below). Target time is to be loaded up and on the road by 7:00 am. We know this is a tough assignment, but we trust a good effort to accomplish this as it is a long day of riding, fun and socializing.
THIS IS A DOWN HILL RIDE. You will be taking a ski lift up the mountain side and riding down. Terry will be starting on the ‘bunny’ hills and working her way up in difficulty throughout the day (although that may mean she is on the bunny hill all day!).
There will be an optional ride - We will head out to Watson Lake on the backside of Northstar. Prolly about noon or so some of us more adventuresome folks will be heading out to the Tahoe Rim Trail which can be found on the backside of Northstar. Ride to Watson Lake for lunch, then head back to Northstar for some more downhill stuff. This is single track with some short technical sections. Discuss below if that is of interest to you.
THIS RIDE IS NOT FREE. You will be required to buy a $42 dollar ‘lift’ ticket at the park (they hook your bike onto the back of the chair lift and you and your bike travel together). If you are a passenger in a carpool please compensate your drivers; most cars will burn approximately $50 dollars in fuel on this trip. I know you are all class acts so enough said.
Bike rentals are also available at Northstar and probably just about anything else your little heart desires. Check out their web site www.northstarattahoe.com for more information. They also have a snack bar for sandwiches, burgers, drinks, etc. up on the mountain side. Plus there are several food joints at the very bottom for those wanting to stay and relax abit before heading home. Consider this when getting carpools together.
A HELMET IS REQUIRED. In fact, for the more aggressive riders, ‘safety equipment’ may be a good idea...extra padding…eye protection etc.
As always, fuel up, bring WATER, light snacks, etc.
Go ahead and discuss carpool requests/offers below as well as interest in heading out to TRT and Watson Lake for lunch.
If anyone thinks we maybe have left something out please let us know.
Phred 747-8651 and Terry 201-4950.
This is a real fun adventure. Hope to see ya there!
Lezley is coordinating a possible lunch date with the Sierra Single Trackers meetup group out of Carson City. More info to follow, but the main idea is to meet them on the backside of Northstar and ride out to Watson Lake along the TRT for lunch. When they get the details of their ride ironed out, we will post the info here.
Hey Terry, how come it does not have a +1 next to your name??????
I have a season pass and will be there 2-3x a week. I have a truck and can shuttle bikes, realistically only one passenger however, no A/C so keep it in mind. ;)
Because the other half was a little hesitant about going. I think I have him talked into it now....hope the snow has melted by then.
Update to my previous post, I bought a new truck since then so I can shuttle, with A/C whew :) seats four.
Great Tony. When we get to Sunsplash we will sort out the carpools. Of course, if folks get them kinda sorted out before hand that would be good as well. :o)
It is coming up soon, if anyone wants to workout a carpool in advance let me know. I have a hitch bike rack or you can tie it up in the bed. As for carpooling, I don't care if anyone donates anything, I go weekly anyway so donate if you wish, but not required. Anyone interested in video? I'll be recording on a helmet cam and I can do a few chase runs, I also have an HD camcorder in case anyone wants some obstacle footage, just sayin...
Great Tony. I will have room for at least 2 passengers and their bikes. Drawback is that I do not have AC. So ride back may be a bit warm.
'Please note that Northstar® Resort's Mountain Biking & Hiking Park's reduced hours of operation during the Lake Tahoe Music Festival at Northstar Resort (July 31, August 5 & August 7). We will be scheduled to open 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. during these 3 days and lift tickets will be priced at $29 for adults, and bike rentals will be $75.'
This is a bad thing right?
Not a good thing Jeff. Perhaps we can meet at 6:30 or 7:00 to get there closer to opening at 8:30. I suspect the option ride to Watson Lake is not impacted as we can come down the hill at any time. Just getting up after 12:30 is out.
Even with the short day you can get in an easy 8 runs. I'm still in, truck bed can hold a bunch of bikes and bike rack can hold 4.
Just got back from another awesome day on the mountain, it was a nice low 70's with a breeze, though many of the trails were pretty dry and dusty. If anyone is on the fence about the time change, you really shouldn't let it phase you, 4hrs is plenty of time to get a lot of runs in.
Oh Phreeed....where are you? Hey, Sheila and I are joining you all....how do we find you at Northstar?
Sheila and I will try to meet you all at Sunsplash at 6:59AM...If you don't see us, go and we'll see you there Phred.
Lisa - we can meet at Roseville Golfland-Sun Splash, 1893 Taylor Rd, Roseville, CA 95661 for carpooling/caravaning. Or if you want to meet us up at Northstar - I will have my cell phone - 916-747-8651. Near the bottom lifts/ticket area.
Hi all. I will post 12 photos here. If you want to see all of them, they are posted on my facebook page.
Thanks Phred and Terry. Great ride.
Was an awesome time and nice meeting everyone :)
For clarification - the lift ticket is for all day. Just like skiing, as many trips up/down the mountain as you can get completed from 10am - 5pm. :o)
